Love CommentLuv Premium? Discover A Plug-in Not To Install

Do you have a self-hosted site and also are a proud member of CommentLuv Premium?

Recently I installed JetPack on this site thinking, "wow, look at all the freebies I get with this plug-in". I let it run for quite a few weeks. Then I noticed, no comments were coming in, so this past weekend I went on a search for answers.

When viewing my site and clicking on reply, it was not my CommentLuv Premium box that showed up, just a plain white box. Where did my CommentLuv go? I checked my plug-in installation page and even went through my settings. All seemed to be good. Still no Luv. I searched the forum for members of CommentLuv Premium and found someone else was having the same issue, but when viewing the thread, that person did not give enough information in the support forum for an answer to be posted.

Still discouraged, I sent in a support ticket in the member center, which I would like to point out that it was late afternoon on a Sunday and I didn't expect to get any answers for 24-48 hours.

Rather than get up from my computer and wait a couple days, I started thinking over what changes that I had made recently. "Wait a minute, I recently added JetPack and there is a comment system within it, could that be the problem"?

Knowing very well that if I de-activated JetPack and that wasn't the fix I needed, I could always re-activate. The de-activation did not help. "Well, why not just delete it, a person can always re-install as the steps in configuration are simple". So I did.

I do have a page cache plug-in on my site and was wondering if that also might be an issue. So back I go to the member forum in CommentLuv. Hoorah! A straight-forward answer that told me the last step I needed to take. It stated, if you have recently upgraded your plug-in and have completed the configurations, go to your page cache and empty it. After taking this last step, my CommentLuv Premium box was back under the reply button.

Back to that support ticket I sent on Sunday evening. I was blown away to be up at 5:00 a.m. Monday morning and find a reply from the author of CommentLuv in my inbox. Now is that service and support or what? Thank you Mr. Bailey, and I wanted to share with all of you that might be CommentLuv Premium owners and members what Andy said;

The steps that I took were correct to fix the issue and CommentLuv Premium does not work with Jetpack.

Now, I did not write this article to offend WordPress.com or the authors of Jetpack, as it does have some interesting features. I wrote this article because in the CommentLuv forum, others were finding the same issue. There are probably alot of you that haven't even noticed the problem yet. I would also like to recommend that you read this article by Vernessa Taylor posted on Coach Notes Blog last fall concerning what she had found using Jetpack. (She is a member of CommentLuv Premium). It is also worth your time to read the 87 comments and counting on that article.

All things considered, this was a bit frustrating at one point, but was easily fixable, and I wanted to reach out to anyone who is having this issue.

Final note on CommentLuv Premium

Personally, I luv it (no pun intended). It totally fits my needs for my site. Anyone can comment on this site, but if you are a member, you possibly can put a link or links to your recent posts in your comment plus enter your Twitter name for others to follow. Neat right! Also, let me say again, Andy Bailey is always working on this plug-in to make it even bigger and better, the service and support is second to none, plus sometimes Andy likes to toss out some great freebies on Tasty Tuesdays.

Andy Bailey, thank you for everything you do. I am proud to be a member of your CommentLuv Premium community, and look,

  1. Hi there! I'm so glad you discovered post by my friend Vernessa (she's awesome) and we were really shocked to see what was going on with Jet Pack. I'm using the Lite version now and it works like a charm and I still get my stats and no conflicts with CommentLuv Premium!

I totally agree! Andy Bailey rocks. Cheers!

    • Hi Ileane,
Thanks so much for visiting! Vernessa's post concerning the same issue was so in-depth that I had to link it to my post. I hope she didn't mind, but she just really had further insight into what was going on. I had just ran into the issue and had noticed others that recently installed Jetpack were having the same issue. Therefore I wanted to write a current post. Hopefully it will assist others. If you don't mind, I am going to follow you on Twitter and definitely be checking out your blog.

      • Hi!

As Andy Bailey said, you did a great job troubleshooting and running down what was causing issues with CommentLuv Premium. Thanks for linking to my article on Jetpack Stats. I was disheartened to see it misbehaving (Ileane had a hand in helping me figure that out) but I have to agree that I love the WordPress platform.

Thanks for taking time to share your experiences -- this is always useful to the wider community when they're trying to locate and fix problems. And hats off to CommentLuv!! :)

        • Hi Vernessa,
I am so glad to connect with you! As stated, I was really working hard that Sunday to figure out what was going on. Once I solved my dilemma, I found your post (incredible, I might add) and felt that others having the same issue not only needed to follow my steps to fix the situation but read your post, as it was so in-depth of the research you did when you ran into the same problem. I thank you so much for visiting my post. You have no idea how much that means to me :-) I will be an avid follower of both you and Ileane.

  3. To quote Doc Sheldon ...

I thought I’d just note that Vernessa and I received personal responses to our concerns from Matt Mullenweg. He jokingly entitled it “Jetpack’s Plans for World Domination”.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had some correspondence with Matt before, and he’s a nice guy. In my opinion, he’s also quite sincere in his desire to provide a safe and secure environment for the WordPress users.

Just wanted to say I agree with Doc. I've since noticed that Jetpack Stats is not bundled with new WordPress installs, so that's a bit of progress.

Along the same lines, CommentLuv and CommentLuv Premium are such popular plugins, it might prove useful to bring the "clash" to the attention of the Jetpack development team. I would defer to Andy (as a plugin developer) as to the best way to do that.

  4. Oh my thank goodness I ran across this post. A friend of mine has been
raving about JetPack and though i've installed it I have yet to set it
up. I was considering doing this as soon as i free up some time. But
upon reading this I think i'll forgo that.

    • Hi Veronica,
Thank you for visiting! I am glad the post was of assistance for you. I visited your site, weddingalbumcafe.com, what a beautiful, informative site for photographers. I also noticed that you are part of the CommentLuv community. Therefore, I am glad you had come across my post so that you also did not end up with the same scenario happening to your site like it did mine by configuring Jetpack. I have been told the lite version is compatible, however, I have chosen to not utilize that either, as after reading Vernessa Taylor's post and what she found with Jetpack, I am fearful that they would make changes to the lite version eventually that would also over-ride CommentLuv. As they say, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
You might have already guest blogged on the CommentLuv Network, but if you have not, you might consider it. http://comluv.com/submit-your-article/ Your site has so much information for professional and hobby photographers that guest blogging there will be of benefit for you and those who read it. Hope to see you there soon :-)
As a last note; please share this post with all that you know, as we are trying to get the word out especially to everyone in the CommentLuv directory so they also will forgo having a miserable day trying to figure out where their CommentLuv disappeared to. Thanks so much.

  5. aww thanks for the accolades! I was told by Andy to look forward for a birthday treat so i'm holding off on upgrading yet but for sure i will. And i've submitted my app to be a guest blogger @ ComLuv just waiting for approval. fingers crossed! Thanks for the follow, i'll be sure to do the same!

  6. Andy Bailey takes the happiness of CommentLuv Premium members seriously! I got an email earlier that asked CLP beta testers to weigh in on the latest update to the plugin:

I decided to have another go at disabling just the comments part of the jetpack plugin. -- Andy Bailey, Aug 4 2012

From what I've seen, the update to CommentLuv works splendidly. For those who love CLP and want to continue using Jetpack Stats, this is probably the best answer.

My feedback is in the CommentLuv Members Beta Testers Forum (CLP 3.0.1.9.6 - Disable Jetpack Stats Comment System)

In case you're not a member of the beta testers forum, the gist of my feedback is thus:

    • I installed CLP 3.0.1.9.6 on a new site and installed Jetpack Stats (so I can give some feedback)
    • With Jetpack Stats enabled CommentLuv Premium options show up as intended
    • The selected post (from the CommentLuv Premium dropdown) shows up below the comment as it should

I released the free version already that just prevents the comments module from loading. Andy Aug 4 2012

Andy has already updated the free CommentLuv plugin and is adding some add'l enhancements to the the premium version.

     How's that for responsiveness? D

    • I had to come back and edit this comment. I am sorry for my rudeness. Veronica, I would like you to meet Vernessa Taylor of Coach Notes Blog. The link in my post with so much research involved belongs to Vernessa. Give credit where credit is do. You are the best Vernessa! Veronica, I hope Vernessa's reply helps you to decide what you would like to do. I also highly suggest you follow her. She will be a great asset for you in the future and she is just one great person!

The CommentLuv Network is a great community to be a part of, so welcome to the neighborhood. I feel you are correct in your statement and thank you for stopping by and commenting on my article. I hope you found it helpful.

    • Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for visiting :) CommentLuv Premium is one of the best plug-ins that I have been lucky enough to come across. As you can see in my article and also the article attached that was posted by Vernessa Taylor, the support is second to none, plus it is a great neighborhood to be in. I am so glad that I purchased it and recommend it to everyone. Please don't procrastinate on the purchase too long, as there is word that it possibly could go up in price in the future. This will be the best money spent starting the new year. For everything that comes with the premium membership, it is actually priced very reasonably. You will thank yourself for purchasing it.
Wishing you all the best going in to 2013

  8. I simply had to thank you so much yet again. I am not sure the things that I could possibly have achieved in the absence of the actual concepts discussed by you directly on such field. It was a troublesome problem in my view, but taking a look at the expert strategy you handled the issue made me to jump for contentment. I am happier for the assistance and thus sincerely hope you comprehend what an amazing job you happen to be putting in teaching the mediocre ones through your site. I am sure you’ve never come across any of us.

    • Thank you Need Hard Money for your in-depth comment. Yes, when I ran into the problem it was troublesome, however, just taking a step back and going over what changes were made, I tracked down what was causing it. The same concept can be applied to any type of problem. I don't consider others as mediocre. Everyone has their own outstanding characteristics which they should recognize and utilize for their own benefit and to assist others in the quest for success.

Once I had ran into the issue, I figured that I could not be the only one having troubles. Therefore, I wanted to assist others with the same issue and hopefully with my post and the incredible write-up by Vernessa Taylor, we have also helped out CommentLuv's creator, Andy Bailey, by not getting swarmed with support messages concerning the issue.

  9. Hi! What works for me is to set a time to do blog hopping and blog commenting several times a week even each day. This gives me the opportunity to really know what is trending in my niche and reach out to other bloggers who talk about the same topic. I even share their posts in my social media accounts if I really find their content interesting and useful to my followers.

  10. The comment luv premium plug-in is more advanced user-interface functionality than the previous comment plug-in..Really the WordPress is so good to develop this product. I requesting if anyone can using the wordpress software they definitely know the value of comment luv premium plug-in..

    • Hi Peter,
That is true that the user-interface is more advanced, plus with the CommentLuv Premium package versus the CommentLuv plug-in, the additional tools are incredible.

However, WordPress did not develop CommentLuv Premium. The creator is Andy Bailey and the plug-in is a great value. Thanks for commenting and I know Andy will be thrilled to know you think so highly of his product.
